The highly anticipated 60HE v2 is progressing through its Design Validation Testing (DVT) phase as the company works toward resolving manufacturing challenges before launch.
Pre-orders for the 60HE v2 will open 30-45 days before shipping begins, allowing for confident delivery commitments and shorter wait times. The company plans to provide regular updates every four weeks leading up to the release.
Currently in DVT testing, the product is undergoing comprehensive evaluation including humidity tests, salt spray tests, extended function testing, and various certification processes (CE, FCC, KCC). Any failed tests or certification issues will trigger another round of DVT testing.
Manufacturing Challenge Emerges
The development team has encountered coating quality issues with the aluminum die-cast case manufacturing process. While the die-casting method itself is proven, the coating application has resulted in scratched cases and uneven coverage, reducing the yield of defect-free units. The team is also addressing coating durability concerns based on lessons learned from the previous 80HE model.
To resolve these issues, company representatives are traveling to China to work directly with coating subcontractors. The team has completed a root cause analysis using 80HE data and is seeking improved manufacturing processes beyond the current proposals.
Backup Plan in Place
Should die-casting prove insufficient, the company has developed an alternative hot forging process. While more expensive, hot forging offers superior durability and consistency by heating rather than melting the metal during shaping.
The final manufacturing method will impact pricing, which remains to be finalized. The next development update is expected soon.
